What's the best way to remove window tinting?

My car has tint in it and I'd like to remove it myself without having all the hassle of leaving it and the bubbles obstruct my vision in my windows. And I'd like to know how to do it myself without having to pay for the removal.|||There are a few different methods, but here's one from a website I found:

1. Roughly cut two black garbage bags into the shape of your window. Spray the outside of your window with soapy water, then cover it with one of the black trash bags. Smooth out the plastic, try to leave no bubbles or pockets of air.

2. Protect all inside surfaces near the window with a tarp: speakers, rear light, and upholstered surfaces, then spray the entire window film with undiluted ammonia. Undiluted ammonia has a strong smell. It is recommended that you hold your breath or wear a face mask. Ammonia fumes can be harmful and different individuals will respond differently to exposure to the fumes.

3. While the ammonia is still wet, trap the ammonia against the window tint with your other trash bag or plastic wrap. Park your car with the window with the tint you鈥檙e trying to remove facing the sun for an hour or so, to soften the tint鈥檚 adhesive. You can accelarate the process with the hairdryer, just set it to high temperature and high fan speed and heat all the window thoroughly. Be careful though, as you鈥檙e heating much quicker then just the sun, you鈥檒l need to add more moisture. Most window tint is constructed of multiple layers of film. When left under the hot sun, the black garbage bags will absorb the heat, helping the window tin film to peel off in one piece.

4. Begin to peel of the tint film. You can use your fingernails or a razor to start peeling off the film from the corner of the window. Be careful not to cut the defroster lines. Keep spraying with the ammonia to keep the film moiseter. Use a razor blade to scrape off any of the leftover tint.

5. Remove any residual adhesive with ammonia and very fine steel wool (if it鈥檚 too coarse it can scratch your glass or break your defroster/antenna lines), then wipe the surface with a cloth or paper towel before it dries. Remove the exterior trash bag, and clean the window thoroughly with glass cleaner.

Hope that helps mate.

-Aidan.|||i love easy answers like this one at your local auto parts store you can find a window scraper for only a cpl bucks and it even comes with a box of replacement blades this will remove all the tint and the glue residue at the same time have fun|||using a hair dryer might work, just go slow. 3M makes a general purpose adhesive remover, will melt any adhesive, and not hurt your paint, or interior. also use new razor blades, if they are used, they can get a nick in them that will scratch your glass.|||They make a solution to remove the glue that remains after you peel off the film. I think you still need to use a razor blade and scrape it off.

I don't think I used the solution when I did it years ago. I used a razor blade and some chemicals I had.|||heat it and start pelling it off.. but it will leave the glue there|||Single edge razor blades and ammonia.

Be cautious around defroster and antenna lines.|||Tint places use heat such as a hair dryer and then ammonia to clean up excess sticky|||Try scraping it off with razor blade.
