|||the reason that tint will turn purple is that you used a cleaner like windex on it. the chemicals in it will alter the color of the tint. Using either water with a rag or a cleaner that says it will not discolor tint is the best to use.

|||I've never used anything but window cleaner specifically for tinted windows (without ammonia), and mine are purple. I think they just fade over time from sun exposure.

|||Only cheap tints or defective films get faded to purple.
If you get it done at reputable tint shops that offers life-time warranty, it won't turn purple easily.
Mine turned purple few years later and they removed and replaced the whole tint for free. It's been fine since then.

|||Its honestly the dyes used to create the color in the tint. Ones that use yellow dye eventually turn purple due to the UV exposure.

|||As a former window tinter I can tell you cheap tint will turn purple over time. If you have good quality tint it will not turn purple.

|||Choose a better tint. Period. Cheap tint film will always turn odd colors or fade. Proper 3M tint material works wonders, and lasts a decade or more, with little regaurd to use and abuse. Find out who did the last tint and don't go there again. Get suggestions from area car dealers.

|||Most people use the dyed film window tint. It is pretty cheap and does the job, but will turn purple over time. I use metallic tint. It is a little more expensive but will pretty much last forever.
|||I've had tinted windows on various vehicles and for numerous years. Any window cleaner with ammonia in it (Windex and the such) will basically "bleach" out the color. The better the quality of film, the longer it will last and less fade over time.

|||It is the sun. But the best answer is wrong, after market is good, alot of places give a lifetime warranty on it from turning purple, cant beat that!
|||It is the ammonia in the window cleaner that causes the purple tint. Just use a window cleaner without ammonia.
|||A cheap grade of window tint can turn purple as well as shrink and bubble. I disagree with the answer that all you need is tint at the top. UV rays that are not reduced will cause fading of fabrics, vinyls and leather. Use water with a tiny bit of soap.

|||Film tints will fade or turn purple over time with sun exposure and using the wrong glass cleaners speeds process. Use auto glass cleaner that is safe for window tint. Also check your installers warranty policy. Metallic tints cost more but could also be an option as they won't fade or change color.

|||It's the adhesive on cheap film that breaks down. Buy the good stuff (Lumar) and it will NOT turn purple with time. Windex does help to hurry along the purple appearance (on cheap film) but is not entirely at fault. Use water for cleaning.

|||I have been tinting windows for 11 years and i have applied all types of films. The reason for it turning purple is mainly the dye film. Window cleaner such as Windex does not help. I like to use a mixture of Joy soap and water and a cotton cloth.

|||Many window tints use a small amount of copper deposited on the plastic film. When an ammonia based window cleaner, like Windex is used, the ammonia basically eats part of the copper, changing the light spectrum that is allowed to pass through the window.

|||Window Tint ONLY turns purple if you use ammonia (e.g. Windex) to clear the inside of your tinted windows. Also, some of the cheaper, self applied, window tinting already has a purple tint to it.

|||GLASS CLEANER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT! Manufactures mix yellow, blue, and red to give film it's "charcoal" appearnce.5 yrs of sun, yellow bleaches out, ur left with blue and red which make? PURPLE! Yay! Ammonia damages the scratch resistant coating, but has nohing to do with color change.

|||The solution: Check for a manufacturer (LLumar, 3M) which uses "YBR porous technology". These 2 do, and color change is included in their warranties because they use a process which allows for breathability in their yellow, resulting in prolonged dye life.
